- If the car still moves and it is safe, get off the road: a side street, a parking lot or the widest shoulder you can reach.
- On I-95 or Florida’s Turnpike, stay inside with your seat belt on unless the car is unsafe to stay in. If you get out, use the side away from traffic and stand well back.
- If anyone is hurt, or your car is blocking a lane, call 911 first.
- Note your exact spot: the road, your direction and the nearest exit, mile marker or cross street.
Florida’s Move Over law also covers disabled vehicles with their hazard lights on, so passing drivers must move over or slow down. Not everyone does. Stay alert and keep your distance from traffic.
